BENSENVILLE, Ill (March 5, 2014) – The Chicago Steel are pleased to announce that Victor Bjorkung has committed to play his collegiate hockey at Ohio State University.
“We are extremely proud of Victor and his commitment to Ohio State. He has been a great teammate and a big reason why we have had success this year. Anytime we have one of our players fulfill their dream of playing collegiate hockey we are excited for them,” Steel Head Coach Scott McConnell said.
The 6-foot, 165 pound defenseman was acquired by the Steel in a pre-season trade with the Sioux Falls Stampede. Bjorkung split the 2012-2013 season, his first in the United States Hockey League, between the Stampede and the Fargo Force. Shortly after arriving in Chicago, the Stockholm, Sweden native was appointed alternate captain. In 34 USHL games for the Steel this season, he has recorded 16 (4g, 12a) points.
Bjorkung is set to join the Buckeyes next year. He will join fellow Chicago Steel alum Darik Angeli on the Buckeye’s roster.
