SCORE WITH READING

The Chicago Steel reading program is geared towards promoting good reading habits among students in kindergarten through fifth grade by utilizing Steel player visits, opportunities to win prizes and free tickets to Steel games. It is a community service program intended to provide the continued goodwill in your community through the spirit of hockey.

The goal of this school-based initiative is to reach out to elementary students throughout the Chicagoland-area by having Steel players visit classrooms to read to and with students. Through this mentoring program, students are encouraged to attain specific reading goals during the season with various rewards provided for their reading achievements. For every two books a child reads they can redeem a free ticket at the Chicago Steel Box Office! At the end of the season, top readers will be recognized on the ice at a Chicago Steel game.

How it works:

First, schedule your Score with Reading day at your school. When that day arrives, former Chicago Blackhawk and current Head Coach of the Chicago Steel, Steve Poapst as well as Chicago Steel players and staff will appear at your school to read in the participating classrooms. At the end of visit, each student will received a Chicago Steel bookmark that has the value of twelve free tickets to Chicago Steel home games!
