Hawks Survive New Look Steel

Bensenville, IL (December 30, 2006) -- The Steel were looking to continue their momentum from a Friday night win and shutout over Ohio with a win over the Waterloo Blackhawks Saturday night, but Waterloo goalie Matthew DiGirolamo had different ideas as he was clearly the top player on the ice Saturday. Waterloo, who leads the East Division in points, scored with 5:33 left in the period, but the Steel went into the dressing room holding their heads high. This was shown as they took the ice in the second period with even more energy then they did in the first. Sean Dolan tied the game at 1 with a powerplay goal and his 8th of the season; Andy Miele and Mike Embach were credited with the assists. The Steel had many more quality chances but were not able to get anymore help for Pat McGann who played a solid game in net for the Steel. McGann faced 42 shots throughout the 3 periods but was not able to stop them all. Waterloo got the lead back and what proved to be the game winner late in the 2nd period.

The Steel fought hard all night, and proved to Waterloo that they are contenders and a brand new team stepping on the ice. The Steel seem to have a a different stride in their step everytime they take the ice as of late and they will be surprising alot of teams the next time they face them.

Notes: The Chicago Steel are on the road for their next two games. Sunday night in Green Bay and Wednesday night in Indiana. They return to home ice for a three game stint starting on Friday, January 5th.
