Future Looking Bright for Windy
City
Bensenville, IL (January 11, 2007) --
The NHL Central Scouting Bureau has released their
January mid-term rankings, and newly acquired left shot
defensemen Ryan McDonagh is ranked number 12 overall on
the list of North American Skaters. McDonagh's ranking
makes him the highest ranked player on a USHL roster.
McDonagh was added to the Chicago Steel protected list
last week and plays as a senior for Cretin-Durham Hall
High School in Minnesota. He is expected to join the
team after his high school season is finished. McDonagh
has already committed to the University of Wisconsin and
stands 6'1 195 lbs. "Ryan McDonagh was the best
defenseman not in the USHL in our staff's opinion, "
stated Steel General Manager Jason Koehler. "We see the
value of adding a player of his calibre to our finish in
the regular season and playoffs, and in Ryan's case - it
gives him an opportunity to play in the top league
against bigger, stronger, faster players and help
improve his stock heading into the NHL Entry Draft."
Current Steel defensemen and Vermont recruit, Dan
Lawson, also made the list at number 198 overall for
North American Skaters. Lawson has had a productive
second season as he has tallied 6 goals and 7 assists
for 13 points. Lawson's 13 points more than doubles his
numbers from last year with half as many games played
thus far. Lawson was recently named USHL Defensive
Player of the Week for January 8th.
Also making the NHL's Central Scouting list were Chicago
Steel Futures Draft picks Drew Leblanc, a junior forward
from Hermantown High School (Minnesota) ranked number 77
overall for North American Skaters and Cloquet High
School (Minnesota) senior Reid Ellingson, who is ranked
number 18 overall on the list for North American
Goaltenders. Both will be members of the Steel next
season.
