Steel Alumni Skates for NHL's Oilers

Bensenville, IL (January 16, 2007) -- The Chicago Steel are proud to report that another member of the Steel alumni has made it to the professional hockey ranks and is skating with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.

Defenseman Tom Gilbert, who skated for Steel in 2001-2002 and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, made his NHL debut on January 10th against the San Jose Sharks. Gilbert registered one shot and was plus one in the victory for Edmonton.

When Gilbert skated with the Steel during the 2001-2002 season, he tallied 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points which led the league in goals by a defenseman and also ranked him third in power-play goals by a blueliner with 6. Gilbert was selected to play in the 2002 USHL All-Star game where he represented the Steel.

In his senior year for the University of Wisconsin, 2005-2006, he finished third on the team in points with 30; 11 goals and 19 assists. One of his college career highlights - he scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA Championship Game, a 2-1 Wisconsin win against Boston College.
