Steel Victorious On The Road

Bensenville, IL (December 3rd, 2007) -- The Steel were able to pick up 4 points on the road this weekend, taking 2 wins home.  Friday night The Steel beat Lincoln 7-5 and Saturday night the Steel took on Sioux Falls and won 4-1.

Friday night’s game The Steel found themselves killing a penalty to start the game as they were assessed a penalty in warm-ups, but this would not discourage Chicago as they were able to kill that penalty and were able to get themselves on the board first with a goal from Brian Dowd (Niagara University) only 3:47 into the game; Dowd ended the night with 2 goals and 2 assists.  After Lincoln was able to get 2 goals by Steel netminder Nick Pisellini, Corey Chakeen was able to even the score at two, and Andrew Miller gave Chicago the lead going into the locker room.

In the second period, The Steel found themselves in a seesaw battle with The Stars and they ended the period in a 5-5 tie.  Andy Miele (Miami-Ohio) and Brian Dowd were able to find the back of the net in the second period.  Eric Alexander was able to score twice in the 3rd to help lead the Steel to the 7-5 defeat over Lincoln.

The following players had assists Friday: Tim Buttery (Michigan State) (2), Aaron Schmit (1), Mark Anthoine (University of Maine)(1), Brian Dowd (Niagara University) (1), Max Nicastro (Boston University)(1), Eric Alexander, and Simon Olsson(4).  Steel goalkeeper Nick Pisellini  saved 32 of the 37 shots he faced in a winning effort.

Saturday Night the Steel picked up where they left off Friday night as Brian Dowd was again the first to score for his 3rd goal in just 2 games, Eric Alexander and Simon Olsson assisted on Dowds goal.  Scott Kishel of Sioux Falls was able to get one by Steel Goaltender Rob Madore (University of Vermont) half way through the first, but that would be all the offense that Sioux Falls would be able to produce.

The rest of the game, the scoring was left to Chicago’s Andy Miele, who scored one in the first and two in the third, for his fourth hat trick of the season.  Max Nicastro assisted on Miele’s first goal, while Brian O’Neil assisted on his second.  Rob Linsmayer and Tim Buttery assisted on Miele’s third goal.

Steel goalkeeper Rob Madore  saved 23 of the 24 shots he faced in a winning effort.

The Steel are now back to .500 with a 8-8-3 record.
