Bemis Commits to Western Michigan

Bensenville, IL (February 12th, 2007) -- The Chicago Steel are proud to announce that defenseman Josh Bemis has committed to the Western Michigan Broncos for the 2009-2010 season.

A native of Clarkston, MI, Bemis is in his first season with the Steel after joining the team full-time in January. Bemis was the Steel's second round selection in the October USHL Futures Draft where he played for coach Brian Burke on the Victory Honda AAA team for the past two seasons. Bemis currently has a 0-1-1 line in 18 games with the Steel this season.

Bemis becomes the tenth Steel player to commit to a NCAA Division I school this year and joins fellow Steel forward Tyler Murovich as a young Bronco recruit.

"Josh is one of the top young defensemen in the country," said Steel General Manager Jason Koehler. "He has been a great addition to our blue line since joining us and will be an impact defenseman for the Broncos' hockey program down the road and will walk in with over 150 USHL games under his belt. We are very fortunate that we'll have Josh in a Steel uniform to anchor our blue line for two more seasons - we forsee great things for Josh as he becomes one of the league's top defensemen. Bronco's assistant coach Marc Fackler was very proactive in his recruiting of Josh for Western Michigan, and they will be rewarded in three years."

Western Michigan is a member of the CCHA Division I college hockey level. They are currently 14-15-1 on the season.
