Steel Split Weekend

Bensenville, IL (February 18th, 2007) – The Steel came out their locker room ready to play Friday night, and they did just that by jumping to an early lead over the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets. Luka Vidmar was first to put the Steel on the score board just 4:49 into the game. It was Vidmar's only goal, but he finished the night with a 1-4-5 line. The Steel added to their lead scoring three more times in the first, giving them a generous lead to go back into their locker room with.

Chicago started the 2nd period as they finished the first; with a mission to out play Ohio at every opportunity. Ryan Raven started the period off right as scored his second goal of the night only 45 seconds into the 2 nd period. Two other goals were tallied in the second period giving the Steel a 7-0 lead after the second.

Eight different Steel players tallied goals Friday night in the 11-0 victory, while 12 players collected points on the night. The Steel also had four players with four plus points. Pat McGann was credited with the win and the shutout, while time was split between himself and Rob Madore, after McGann was given a match penalty.

The Stars of the game were; 3rd – Andy Miele, 2-2-4 line Friday, 2nd – Luka Vidmar, 1-4-5, and 1st Star was Ryan Raven, 2-1-3.

Saturday night the Steel were looking to carry over their scoring momentum against Des Moines, but the Buccaneers struck first and struck early; as they scored only 47 seconds into the game.

The Buc's kept the pressure on in the first period and jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the intermission, while Chicago was only able to counter with one goal in the 2nd period by Corey Chakeen. Entering the 3rd period, the Steel were looking to make a come back and they started it off right with a goal from Sean Dolan making it a 3-2 game, but Des Moines responded with back to back goals. This did not discourage Chicago as they were able to put two more goals back on the board making it 5-4 with goals from Andy Miele and Dolan.
The Buc's secured the win as they were able to slide a puck under a diving Rob Madore as he was trying to get to the bench for the extra attacker.

The Steel return to action at the Edge Ice Arena next weekend, February 23rd and 24th against Omaha. Both nights puck drop is 7:30 pm and the games can also be seen on the B2 Network.
