Nicastro Commits to Boston University

Bensenville, IL (February 28th, 2007) -- The Chicago Steel are proud to announce that recently acquired "Futures" defenseman Max Nicastro has committed to the Boston University Terriers for the 2009-2010 season.

A native of Thousand Oaks, CA, Nicastro is in his first season with the LA Jr. Kings Midget AAA team playing for head coach Mike Pilon. Nicastro was acquired by the Steel at the USHL trade deadline along with forward Trevor Nill in exchange for Brian Keane and Mike Embach in a blockbuster deal with the Indiana Ice that saw a total of four players and five draft picks change hands. Nicastro currently has a 17-19-36 line in 48 games with the Jr. Kings this season, including 15 power play goals.

Nicastro becomes the eleventh Steel player to commit to a NCAA Division I school this season and will join the Steel full-time next season as a high school senior.

"Max is one of the top young defensemen in the country not playing in the USHL right now," said Steel General Manager Jason Koehler. "He was an important acquisition for us at the deadline, knowing that we have a defenseman that our entire staff feels will be the top first year defensemen in the USHL, in our uniform, is very exciting for this organization next season. Max had a number of college options and surprisingly for a California player - decided he wanted to play in the northeast in Boston. Boston University made a wise move grabbing him now, as his stock will only go up once he's in the USHL next season and getting many NHL Draft looks. We know Max is getting quality coaching with Mike Pilon and the Jr. Kings this year and look forward to having him in Chicago next season."

Boston University is a member of Hockey East. They are currently 18-7-9 on the season
