LeBlanc Wins Minnesota State Title, Set To Join Steel

Bensenville, IL (March 11th, 2007) -- Chicago Steel Futures Pick- forward Drew LeBlanc and his Hermantown Hawks, won the Minnesota State High School Class A Championship on Saturday, defeating the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers 4-1 in the championship final which was played at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN.

Hermantown went undefeated at 29-0-1 on the season and LeBlanc led the team with a 31-56-87 line in 31 games.

LeBlanc, Chicago's fourth round selection in the Futures Draft, will be joining the Steel Thursday, March 15th and will appear in his first USHL game Friday, March 16th against the Indiana Ice in Bensenville. He will play with the Steel full-time the remainder of the season.

A high school junior, LeBlanc stands 5'11 185 lbs. and is one of the most sought after college recruits in Minnesota. He is also currently rated by the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau as the 77th best skater in North America for the NHL Entry Draft in June based on the CSB's Mid Term Rankings. His time with the Steel and recent State Championship should help that ranking improve between now and June.

"We are very excited to have Drew come aboard the rest of the season for us, " said Steel General Manager Jason Koehler. "He should add instant offense to our forward group and only get better once he gets settled into Chicago and adjusted to the USHL. We traveled to see him this past week at the Minnesota State Tournament and there's no doubt he's one of the premier players in the country."

The Chicago Steel host the Indiana Ice on Friday, March 16th at 7:30pm at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. You can also watch the game on the B2 Network.
