Steel Earn Big Win at Home; Series at 2-1

Bensenville, IL (April 22nd, 2007) – Down 2-0 in the best of 7 series the Steel knew they had to get a win Sunday night, and they did just that. Waterloo’s Matt Arhontas put the Blackhawks on the board first at only 1:44 into the game, but the Steel would not let that discourage them scoring the next four goals in the period.

Corey Chakeen, Matt Godlewski and Andy Miele all had 2 goals a piece in the game, while both of Miele’s and Chakeen’s goals came in the first period.

Chakeen evened the score at one, and Andy Miele lit the lamp and gave Chicago the lead at 13:24; Ryan Raven was credited with the assist, his first of two assists on the night. Chakeen scored his second of the night at only 27 seconds later from a pass from Luka Vidmar. On the powerplay Sean Dolan worked the puck around and Miele got his second of the night by Waterloo goaltender Matt DiGirolamo. Waterloo got two more past Steel tender Rob Madore in the first leaving the score 4-3 going into the first intermission.

The second period was not as eventful in the scoring sense but it was a battle between the teams, just as the first period was. Matt Godlewski netted his first of the night while on the powerplay; Drew LeBlanc and Dan Ryan were given the assists on the goal. Godlewski scored his second goal of the night in the 3rd period and Raven earned his second assist of the night on Godlewski’s goal.

Rob Madore was again solid in net saving 31 of the 34 shots he faced in net earning the win for Chicago.

The 3 stars of the game were: 3rd Matt Godlewski, 2nd Andy Miele, and 1st Corey Chakeen.
