Chicago Beats Divisional Foe Cedar Rapids

Bensenville, IL (January 17th, 2008) -- Divisional foe Cedar Rapids came into town on Wednesday for a midweek game to take on the Chicago Steel.  The Steel jumped out to an early lead scoring 9:02 into the game with a goal from Corey Chakeen.  Drew LeBlanc (St. Cloud State) had the assist on Chakeen’s first of the night.

The second period would see as many goals as the first, but in favor of Cedar Rapids.  RoughRider Matt Donovan was able to tie the game at 1 late into the second.  The scoring would open up during the third period as the Steel were able to put 3 more on the board.  Corey Chakeen got the scoring started with an unassisted highlight reel goal 1:33 into the third, but the RoughRiders would tie the game back up eight minutes later.  The Steel would not give up though as Jak Knelman and John Moore were both able to get the puck past Cedar Rapid’s goaltender Kent Patterson.  Eric Alexander assisted on Knelman's goal while Drew LeBlanc had his second assist of the night on Moore’s goal.

Rob Madore earned the big win for Chicago stopping 32 of the 34 shots he faced in net.

The Steel are back on the road this weekend heading to Cedar Rapids Friday night and Des Moines Saturday night.  The Steel return back to The Edge Ice Arena January 25 for a 7:30 start against the Green Bay Gamblers.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Steel box office at (630) 594-1165.

Note:  First star of the game Corey Chakeen has 4 goals in 3 games and 7 points in 5 games.  Rob Madore got his 5th win in net in as many starts.   Madore also appeared in net for the Steel while they were on their Tri-City road trip last weekend saving all 16 shots he faced, but Nick Pisellini was credited with the win as the Steel were up 3-1 before his early departure.
