Bensenville (October
10, 2008)
– The Chicago Steel earned their first
victory of the season with a 2-0 victory at home over
the Cedar Rapids Roughriders.
Hudson Stremmel stopped all 37 shots he saw in his first
USHL regular season game to earn the shutout and victory
for Chicago.
"Anytime you get a 37 save performance from your
goaltender, it's a huge boost to the club," said Steel
Head Coach Steve Poapst.
After a scoreless first period, the Steel wasted no time
getting on the board in the second.
Philip Samuelsson sent a head-man pass to Andrew Miller
to send Chicago in on a 2-on-2 rush. Miller held the
puck, until firing a shot between the legs of Cedar
Rapids goalie Mike Johnson for his second goal of the
season.
The Steel would hold on to that one-goal lead into the
third, and the Roughriders got a 5-on-3 advantage for
57-seconds early in the final frame. Chicago's penalty
killers held Cedar Rapids off the scoreboard.
Chicago killed off all 12 man-advantages for the
Roughriders in the game.
The Steel got an insurance goal with 5 minutes remaining
in the game when Alexander scored his second of the
year.
The Steel will return to action tomorrow night at home
against the Green Bay Gamblers. Game time is 7:30 and
