Futures Draft Results


Bensenville (October 15, 2008) Yesterday was the USHL Future’s Draft, a draft in which each USHL team will participate in the Futures Draft and draft until their affiliate lists consist of 12 players who are 1991 or 1992 birth year players. Teams will then be back to their 35-man protective list of 23 active players and 12 future players.  These players are not expected to play in the league this year, but are drafted in hopes that they will be ready in the upcoming years. 

With the 6th pick in the 1st round, the Steel chose Kevin Lind, a Defenseman on Chicago Mission’s U-18 team. Lind, born in 1992 and 6'1 175lbs, currently has 2 goals and 16 penalty minutes in 7 games. He spent last season with the Mission’s U-16 team, where he recorded 13 points and 30 penalty minutes in 31 games.

In the 2nd round of the Futures Draft with the 17th overall pick, Chicago chose Jamie Oleksiak.  Oleksiak, born in 1992 and 6’5 210 lbs, currently plays for Detroit Little Caesars AAA Hockey Club. From Toronto, Oleksiak was drafted in the 7th round in the OHL draft, and was named to the ’92 all-star team in the USHL prospect camp. In 19 games with Little Caesars he has 1 goal and 6 assists.

In the 4th round, the Steel picked up Belle Tire Goaltender Adam Miller.  Miller is  5’9 150lbs and is a 1992 birth year.  He is currently playing for Belle Tire and has a record of 2-4 with a 3.27 GAA this season. Miller spent 3 years with the Chicago Mission going 19-9-1 with six shutouts.

The 5th round of the draft only saw two draft picks, and one of them being 48th overall, Zach Rall.  Zach is a 91 birth year and is currently playing for South Central Wolves of Alaska.

Resuming normal draft procedures, Chicago picked up Goaltender Connor Wilson from Berkshire Prep in the 6th round.  Wilson is 5’10 170 lbs. 

With the 65th overall pick in the 7th round, Chicago drafted Forward Alex Carpenter.  Carpenter is 5’8 170 lbs is a 1991 birth year.  Carpenter is currently playing for Team S2. 

In the 8th round, Chicago picked up Forward Mac Olson.  The 5’7 170 lbs will be playing for the University of Detroit Jesuit HS.

The 9th round of the Futures Draft, the Steel got Dan Kolomatis.  Kolomatis standing at 5’11 165 lbs, born in 1991. Dan is a right handed shot who played for the NJ Junior Rockets B team last year. He had 8 Goals and 15 Assists and 26 penalty minutes in 24 games.
