Bensenville (October
29, 2008)
- The Waterloo Black Hawks scored the
game's first four goals, and never looked back in
beating the Chicago Steel 6-2 at the Edge in
Bensenville.
Waterloo opened the scoring with about seven minutes
remaining in the first period on a goal from Derek
Arnold.
They wasted no time expanding on their lead in the
second, getting a goal 2:14 into the middle frame after
Eriah Hayes came off the left-wing boards and beat
Stremmel glove-side.
Midway through the 2nd, the Steel had a chance to get
back in the game with a two-man advantage for 1:36.
Waterloo killed that off and twelve seconds later, Eddie
Olczyk of Waterloo made it a three-goal Black Hawk lead.
Thirty-one seconds later Arnold scored his second of the
night to chase Stremmel from the crease.
Stremmel made 16 saves on 20 Waterloo shots.
Late in the third, the Steel got on the board when
Andrew Miller sent Eric Alexander in all alone on
Waterloo goalie Joe Howe. Alexander lifted a backhanded
shot over Howe's blocker to end the second period
scoring.
Waterloo regained their four-goal advantage with seven
minutes left in the game on a Craig Smith wrist shot
from the high slot.
With a minute and a half remaining in the game, Greg
Wolfe tipped a Mike Walsh shot past Howe to make it 5-2.
A half minute later, Arnold completed the hat-trick and
finished the scoring.
The Steel hit the road this weekend, with a game at
Green Bay Halloween night, and Cedar Rapids Saturday
night. They return home Wednesday, November 12th,
against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Tickets can be ordered
