High Scoring Offense Puts Up A Win

Story By: Steve Jankowski
Bensenville (November 19, 2008)The Chicago Steel had their three-game winning streak snapped as they split a pair of road games this past weekend.

On Friday night, the Steel invaded Omaha's Mid-America Center for the first time this year, and quickly fell behind 3 goals in the game's first 10 minutes.

Taylor Holmstrom, Troy Power and Danny Kristo all beat Chicago goalie Matt Delaney in the opening period, as the Lancers outshot Chicago 12-5 in the frame.

Omaha's Jake Houswirth extended his team's lead to four just three minutes into the 2nd period.

Chicago got on the scoresheet before the end of the second period with a power play goal from Rob Linsmayer.

Houswirth struck again early in the third for the home team to make it 5-1 Lancers.

Andrew Miller (Yale University) got that goal back 6 minutes into the final period for the Steel, but Omaha's Tom Craig finished the scoring for both teams just under a minute later.

The next night, the Steel traveled to Tri-City, and once again, found themselves down after the game's first 20 minutes.

Diederick Hagemeijer gave the Storm the lead with just over 5 minutes left in the first period and Tri-City would take that lead to the dressing room.

Chicago tied the game at one just over two minutes into the 2nd period on Mike Walsh's (Air Force Academy) fifth goal of the year.

Four minutes later, Rob Linsmayer gave the Steel the lead with his 3rd goal on the season.

Midway through the 2nd, Greg Wolfe was sent off for tripping, and Tri-City's Radoslav Illo took advantage with a power-play goal to tie the game at 2.

Less than a minute after that goal, it was the Steel's turn on the power play, and Dean Chelios would score what proved to be the game winner on that power play.

In the third, the Steel put the game out of reach with goals from Matt Lindblad, Chelios and Eric Alexander (Ferris State University).

Hudson Stremmel stopped 23 Storm shots to earn his sixth win on the season.

The Steel return to the Edge Ice Arena on November 21 for a 7:30 game against the Omaha Lancers.  Tickets can be ordered by calling 630.594.1165.
