Moore Powers Steel Past Des Moines
Story By: Steve Jankowski
Bensenville (November 28, 2008)Throughout the first 18 games of the 2008-09 season, the Chicago Steel's offense has been paced by high-scoring forwards Eric Alexander (Ferris State University) and Andrew Miller (Yale University).  But on Friday night against the Des Moines Buccaneers, defenseman John Moore (Colorado College) provided more than enough offense with a natural hat trick for the Steel as they beat the Bucs 5-1 at the Edge Ice Arena.

Dean Chelios opened the scoring midway through the first on a 2-on-1 rush while the teams skated four aside.  He took a feed from Miller and beat Des Moines goalie Aaron Crandall for his fourth goal of the year.

Miller recorded two assists on the night, running his league-leading totals to 19 assists and 31 points, respectively.

Des Moines got their only goal of the night on a two-man advantage late in the first period, but Chicago got that goal back to re-take the lead on Mark Anthoine's (University of Maine) second goal of the season with less than a minute left in the period.  He picked up the rebound of a Brett Beebe (Western Michigan University) shot to give the Steel a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The score stayed that way late into the second, when Moore began his offensive onslaught.  His first goal came with Chicago skating a man short, and he fired a rising wrist shot under the crossbar at 14:58 of the 2nd period.  The goal chased Crandall from the net in favor of Fredrik Bergman.

Moore completed the hat trick with two quick goals in the first three minutes of the third period.  He scored on the power play at 1:58 of the third, and shortly after the ensuing faceoff, Moore scored again for the final margin.

The win was Chicago's 10th of the season.  Last year, the Steel won their 10th game on December 28th, 2007.

The Steel return to action tomorrow night at the Edge Ice Arena against the East Divison leading Indiana Ice.  Puck drop is 7:30 and tickets can be ordered by calling 630.594.1165.
