- The Chicago Steel faced off against the
USHL's top team at the Edge Ice Arena Saturday night,
and was on the short end of a 3-2 decision.
Chicago goalie Hudson Stremmel
stopped 24 Ice shots, but Indiana goalie Brett Bennett
out dueled him, stopping 27 Steel shots.
Stanislav Galiev gave Indiana the
lead late in the first on a wrist shot that eluded
Stremmel.
Seven minutes into the second, the
Steel were on the man-advantage, and Mike Walsh (Air
Force Academy) fired a slapshot through traffic and past
Bennett to tie the game at one.
Three minutes later, with the Ice
on the power play, Shane Berschbach received a pass from
Max Cook on the far post and one-timed it past Stremmel
to give the Ice the lead once again.
With five minutes left in the 2nd,
Indiana extended their lead to two on a goal from Chris
Stafne.
The score remained 3-1 Indiana late
into the third, before Mark Anthoine (University of
Maine) poked a loose puck in the crease through
Bennett's pads to get Chicago within one.
That would be as close as the Steel
got, as Indiana's defense and Bennett shut the door to
hold on for a hard-fought one-goal win.
The Steel will play their next
three games away from home, but will return to the Edge
Ice Arena on Saturday, December 13th and 14th for a pair
of games against the Green Bay Gamblers. Saturday's
game starts at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday game will get
underway at 3:00 p.m. Tickets for all Steel home games
can be ordered by calling 630.594.1165. |
