Steel Acquire Chelios

Bensenville (November 5, 2008)The Chicago Steel are pleased to announce that they have acquired Forward Dean Chelios from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.

Dean is a 6'1, 175 lb '89 birth year from Bloomfield, MI.  Dean is the son of current Detroit Redwing and long time Chicago Blackhawk, Chris Chelios.  Chris Chelios spent 9 seasons with the Blackhawks and is in his 26th season in the NHL.

The 2008-2009 season is Dean’s second season in the USHL.  In his first season with the RoughRiders he played 53 regular season games earning 6 goals, 12 assists and 26 PIM's.  In 6 games this season Chelios has 1 assist and 6 PIM's.

The Steel will look to have Chelios bring some experience to the offense as he will join a young team.  The Steel only have 7 veteran forwards, now including Chelios.  When asked about the acquisition of Chelios, Head Coach and General Manager Steve Poapst said "we are excited to have Dean as a part of our organization as he will bring some needed experience to our young line-up.  We are looking forward to reuniting Dean with Andrew Miller again.  They had a lot of success playing together in high school before moving on to play in the USHL" said Poapst.

The Steel are back in action at the Edge Ice Arena on Wednesday, November 12th at 7:30 PM, as they take on the Waterloo Blackhawks.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Steel box office at 630.594.1165.
