Bensenville (December 13, 2008)
-- Coming
off a big win at Indiana, the Steel returned home for a
matchup with the Green Bay Gamblers, and despite
outshooting Green Bay 26-18 in the game, Steven
Summerhays turned aside 25 Chicago shots to earn a 4-1
win at the Edge Ice Arena.
Chicago carried the play for most of the
first period, but it was Green Bay who scored the only
goal in the opening 20 minutes. Off a faceoff win in
the Chicago zone, Ryan Furne deflected a David Makowski
shot over Steel goalie Hudson Stremmel's shoulder with
just over five minutes left in the period.
Green Bay extended their lead to two
early in the second, when Chris Crane sent a pass to
Jacob Johnstone, who deflected it past Stremmel.
Chicago missed a golden opportunity with
just over 3 minutes left in the period when Kevin Lind
found Eric Alexander (Ferris State University) open in
the slot, but the puck rolled off his stick and wide of
the goal.
Early
in the third, the Steel went on a 5-on-3 power play for
1:13. Moments after Green Bay's second penalty, Andrew
Miller (Yale University) slid the puck back to John
Moore (Colorado College) and he one-timed a shot past
Summerhays for his 8th goal of the year.
Six minutes later, Green Bay forced a
turnover just inside the Steel blue line and Reed Seckel
beat Stremmel glove side to extend the lead to 3-1,
before CJ Lee added an empty-net goal in the final
minute of the game.
The Steel will return to action against
the Gamblers at 3:00 p.m tomorrow. Tickets can be
