Bensenville (December 31, 2008)
- The Chicago Steel visited Waterloo to end
the calendar year of 2008, and looked to end the year on
a positive note, but the Black Hawks scored four goals
in the third period to take a 7-4 victory.
Max Nicastro (Boston University,
Detroit Red Wings) scored the only goal of the first
period just over five minutes into the game on a power
play.
By the midway point of the second
period, Waterloo scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. But
with five and a half minutes left in the 2nd, Chicago's
top line tied the game at two, on the first of three
goals on the night for Andrew Miller (Yale University).
The deadlock was broken shortly
thereafter, with Waterloo re-taking the lead 36 seconds
after Miller's goal.
But with just over 3 minutes left
in the middle period, Miller tied the game at 3, heading
into the 2nd intermission.
The third period would be Chicago's
undoing, as the Black Hawks would score four unanswered
goals in a nine-minute span in the late stages of the
period, with the final of the four goals giving Waterloo
a 7-3 lead with two minutes left.
Miller would add another power play
goal with 24 seconds left to finish the scoring, and cap
his hat trick. He now has 18 goals and and 26 assists,
for 44 total points on the year, and Miller leads the
league in each category. Dean Chelios and Philip
Samuelsson also added two assists each in the losing
effort.
The Steel will return home for
their first two games against the Fargo Force. Both
Friday and Saturday night's games will start at 7:30
p.m. and tickets can be ordered by calling the Steel Box
Office at 630.594.1165. |
