- The Chicago Steel took a 3-2 lead into the
final period at East Division leader Indiana, but Brent
Gwidt scored with 28 seconds left in regulation for the
Ice on the power play to pull out a 4-3 win at Indy's
Pepsi Coliseum Friday night.
Brandon Richardson opened the
scoring with a pair of goals in the first period, giving
Indy an early two-goal lead, but Rob Linsmayer and John
Moore (Colorado College) scored just over two minutes
apart toward the end of the opening period to tie the
game at 2 before intermission. Moore's goal was his 7th
of the year, putting him one ahead of teammate Mike
Walsh (Air Force Academy) for the most among USHL Blue
liners. Moore also assisted on Linsmayer's goal, giving
him 17 total points, also tops among USHL defenseman.
Late in the 2nd period, Andrew
Miller (Yale University) broke a personal three-game
goal-less skid with his 13th goal this year while
Chicago was on a power play.
Ben Albertson tied the game at
three at the 8:07 mark of the third for Indiana, setting
up Gwidt's power play heroics.
The Steel will travel to Des Moines
tomorrow night for a match up with the Buccaneers, and
will pay the Ice another visit next Friday before
returning home to the Edge Ice Arena for back-to-back
tilts with the Green Bay Gamblers Saturday night and
Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be ordered for all Steel
