Steel Split Weekend Against Storm

Bensenville, IL (February 26th, 2008) -- The Chicago Steel took one of two this past weekend in a series against the Tri-City Storm at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.  Friday night, the Storm were able to get on the board first, and they followed their first goal up with a second only 13 seconds later.  37 seconds after Tri-City took a 2-0 lead, Jak Knelman brought the game back to 2-1 with his 4th goal of the year; Tim Buttery (Michigan State) and Eric Alexander had the assists on the goal.  The Storm were not finished scoring in the first period though, as they were able to score a powerplay goal, giving them the 3-1 lead going into the second period.

The second period would not see any scoring action, but the game continued at a good high energy, action packed pace.  In the third period Robin Sjoren scored his first USHL goal, and brought the game back within striking distance; Andrew Miller (Yale) and Barron Smith had the assists on Sjoren’s goal.  The Steel would battle and would have their chances but they were not able to find the back of the net again on Friday night.

Saturday night would be the exact opposite story from Friday night.  In the first 1:33 of the game the Steel were able to give themselves a 2-0 lead.  Chicago’s line of Brian O’Neill (Yale), Brian Dowd (Niagara) and Simon Olsson, would be all the offense that the Steel would need as they started the scoring only 1:10 into the game.  Brian O’Neill got the goal with Dowd and Olsson earning the assists.  23 seconds later, Simon Olsson would net the game winner.  Olsson’s goal came on passes from O’Neill and Dowd.

On Behalf of the Chicago Steel, the alumni players who were in attendance to sign autographs for all of our fans, and Blackhawks Charities, we would like to thank everyone who helped us raise a great amount of money for Blackhawks Charities.  Blackhawks Charities is an organization which was established to address the health and well-being of Chicagoland youth and has been in existence since 1993.
