Steel
Struggle In Weekend Road Trip
Bensenville, IL (March 10th, 2008)
-- The Steel went on the road over the weekend with the
hopes of taking four points; instead they ran into some
hot offense and solid goaltending. Friday was a meeting
of the two most penalized teams in the league when the
Steel made the eight-hour trip to Lincoln Nebraska. The
night started out well for Chicago when the newest Steel
player, Alex Simonson, recorded his first USHL goal with
assists by Corey Chakeen and Robin Sjoren. In the
second period the Stars would score four unanswered
goals on 15 shots. Chicago answered back 7:47 into the
third when Ryan Schnell recorded his third goal of the
season. Aaron Schmit and Drew LeBlanc (St. Cloud State)
had assists. The Stars would finish the night by adding
one more to the scoreboard when Travis Erstad recorded
his eighth goal of the season.
On Saturday night the Steel traveled to Waterloo to
take on the Blackhawks in a meeting between East
Division rivals. The Steel’s penalty kill did well
holding the Blackhawks powerplay scoreless. However,
Waterloo was still able to find the back of the net.
The Blackhawk scored two goals each period to walk away
with a 6-0 victory. It was the first time Chicago has
been shutout since December 16th and only the
third time this season.
The
Steel look to rebound this Friday night at the Edge Ice
Arena in Bensenville when they take on the Green Bay
Gamblers for the seventh time this season. Game time is
set for 7:30. Tickets are still available and can be
ordered by calling the Steel box office at (630)
594-1165.
