Steel Selection Camp

Bensenville, IL (April 14th,  2008) -- The 2008 Chicago Steel Selection Camp is a week long camp that will start Monday June 9th and go through Sunday June 15th, 2008 at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois.

The Chicago Steel Selection camp is an invitation only camp.  Those who wish for the opportunity to be invited must fill out and submit a player questionnaire that can be downloaded off of the Chicago Steel website.  Submission of the player questionnaire does not guarantee an invitation to selection camp.

Due to league policy, no camp invites can be sent out until after May 14th, when the 2008 USHL entry draft takes place.

The Double Tree Oak Brook is the official host hotel of the Chicago Steel Hockey Team Selection Camp.  Located only 10 minutes away from the Edge Ice Arena, this full service hotel is located right across from the Oak Brook shopping center and is less than 20 miles away from downtown Chicago.
The special selection camp rate is $94.00/night, which includes their breakfast buffet every morning.  To book your room please call the Double Tree Oak Brook at
630.472.6000 and ask for the Chicago Steel Selection Camp to get the special rate.

The week long selection camp will be divided into three separate portions.  Monday and Tuesday will feature the Goaltender Camp in which junior and college hockey shooters will be on hand to shoot on the goaltenders. Each goaltender in attendance gets three on-ice sessions over the two days and is evaluated through a variety of drills. This camp gives selected goaltenders a chance to earn one of twelve spots in the Steel Rookie Camp immediately following the Goaltender Camp. All goaltenders expecting to play for the Steel must go through this portion of the camp. This camp, along with the week long evaluation, allows the Steel hockey staff to make the best decisions possible on the most important position in the game.

Wednesday and Thursday the Steel Rookie Camp takes place. Here, mainly non-Steel veteran players will battle for an undetermined number of spots for the Steel Final Camp which takes place immediately following the Rookie Camp. Players from all levels have been invited with a focus on high school aged players. Eight goaltenders from the Rookie Camp will advance to the Final Camp.

Friday through Sunday is the Chicago Steel Final Camp. The 13th and 14th will feature four teams of the top players from the Goalie and Rookie Camp, as well as specially invited Junior A experienced players and Steel veterans. On Saturday afternoon, the four teams will be trimmed down to two teams and they will play two final games before roster decisions are made on Sunday afternoon, June 15th.
