Steel Push Ice To Melting Point

Bensenville, IL (April 16th,  2008) -- The Chicago Steel and Indiana Ice met in game three of the Eastern Division Semi-Finals Tuesday night at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. The scoring began just 22 seconds into the game when Drew LeBlanc (St. Cloud State) recorded his first career USHL playoff goal. Brian O’Neill (Yale) and Simon Olsson had assists on the goals. The Ice responded with a goal in the middle of the first to tie the game up at one.

In the second period Chicago captain Mike Walsh fed a pass to Luca Cunti (St. Cloud State) who found the back of the net for his second goal of the playoffs. The goal put the Steel up 2-1 heading into the third despite being out shot 29-24.

The third period was scoreless until Eric Alexander (Ferris State) was taken down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot. Alexander, who was the best Steel player in the shootouts during the regular season, put a backhander past Indiana goaltender Matt Hoyle to give the Steel a 3-1 lead and secure the victory. Chicago goaltender Rob Madore (Vermont) was solid between the pipes finishing the game with 41 saves and his third career playoff victory.

With the win the Steel take a 2-1 series lead and can eliminate the Ice with one more victory. Game four of the series will take place Friday night at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville at 7:30. Tickets can be purchased by calling (630) 594-1165.
