Steel Fall To
Buccaneers in Overtime
Bensenville (January 29th,
2009)
--
Andrew Miller (Yale University) did his part to get the
Chicago Steel's longest road trip of the year off to a
good start, but the Des Moines Buccaneers scored the
decisive goal in overtime to beat the Steel 3-2.
Chicago outshot the Buccaneers 10-8 in the first period,
but neither team could find the back of the net.
Miller would light the lamp 41 seconds into the second
period for his league-leading 23rd goal of the season.
Josh Balch tied the game at one with just under 9
minutes left in the second, but Chicago re-took the lead
a minute later when Max Nicastro (Boston University,
Detroit Red Wings) took a feed from Miller to score his
8th goal of the season. Miller's assist was his
league-leading 34th, giving him 57 total points, which
is tops in the USHL.
Rocco Carzo prevented Chicago from taking a lead into
the third period when he scored on the power play with
about four minutes left in the middle frame, tying the
game at two.
Neither team scored in the third where the Steel outshot
the home team 9-5.
The game would go to overtime, and 2:13 into the extra
session, Andrew Himelson scored to give Des Moines the
victory.
The road trip continues tomorrow night when the Steel
visit the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Their next home
game will be Wednesday, February 18th at 7:30 p.m.
against the Indiana Ice. Tickets for all Steel home
