Bensenville, IL (October 13rd, 2009) -
After participating in the Pittsburg
Penguins’ 2009 Rookie Camp and 2009 Prospect Tournament,
former Chicago Steel forward Ryan Schnell has signed
with the NHL’s affiliated team, the Wilkes Barre-Scranton
Penguins.
Upon signing with Wilkes Barre-Scranton, Schnell was
assigned to the ECHL Wheeling Nailers, and will join the
roster for current 2009-2010 season.
Schnell started his junior hockey career in 2005 with
Team USA. After staying in the NAHL for two years,
Schnell joined the Chicago Steel for the 2007-2008
season. The 6’3” force recorded 13 points (4-9-13)
during the regular season and added an assist during
Chicago’s post-season playoff run. Schnell continued on
with the Steel in the fall of 2008 before transferring
midseason to the Saginaw Spirits in early 2009.
Years of dedication continue to pay off as Schnell
shares, “I've been working very hard to get the
opportunity to play professional hockey [and] to be a
part of the Penguin's organization is a great feeling."
The AHL deal with the Penguins proves to be the next
step for Schnell, who is “very excited and eager to
start this season with the Wheeling Nailers.”
The Steel would like to congratulate Ryan on his
achievement and wish him luck with future AHL and NHL
play. Fans can follow Schnell and the Wheeling Nailers
