Bensenville, IL (October 23rd, 2009) -
The
Chicago Steel suffered their first road loss of the
season Thursday night in Omaha, but on Friday, the Steel
looked to rebound against a Lincoln Stars squad that was
3-2 in a tough Western Division.
In
the first period, Chicago hit the ground running when
Alex Krushelnyski slipped the puck past Lincoln goalie
Steven Racine to give the Steel a 1-0 lead.
Connor Wilson got the start for Chicago in place of
regular starter Nick Pisellini (Western Michigan), and
the Steel were off to the right start to get Wilson his
first win on the season.
A
tripping call on Chicago’s Theo Dipauli led to Lincoln’s
first goal of the night knotting the game at 1-1.
Omaha forward Ben Lynch notched his third goal of the
year with 11:38 on the clock which would mark the one
and only time Lincoln would lead in this one.
Goals by forwards Andrei Kuchin and Sahir Gill gave the
Steel a 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission.
Solid defense by Wilson, who saved 40 out of the 45
shots he faced, and the Chicago D left Lincoln off the
board in the second, and Jay Camper extended the Steel
lead to 4-2 with a nice rebound off the boards past
Racine.
Greg Wolfe opened the third period with his first goal
of the game, his 5th of the year, giving the
Steel a 5-2 lead.
Despite a power play goal from Gill, his second of the
game, and an eventual empty netter from Chicago’s Mark
Anthoine (Maine), Lincoln would not go quietly.
Two Lincoln goals later and the Stars had pushed it to
7-5 but the clock was against them as Chicago managed to
hold on for the win.
Chicago improves to (5-2), 4-1 on the road, while
Lincoln drops to 3-4. The Steel head to Sioux Falls
tomorrow night to take on the undefeated Stampede.
