High Scoring Affair Leads To Extra Play
Story By: Chris Babb
Bensenville, IL (November 14, 2009) -  The Chicago Steel have remained muddled at the top of the Eastern standings for much of the season.

After getting swept on their recent road trip up north against the Fargo Force, the Steel found themselves with a winnable two game swing this past weekend, beginning at Youngstown, OH.

The Phantoms, coming into the game, were (8-5-1), good for fourth in the East. In the last matchup between the two teams, the Phantoms got the better of Chicago 5-3 on October 11th.

Steel goalie Connor Wilson got the nod on Friday; Wilson’s record going into the match was 1-2, including an OT loss at Fargo last weekend.

In the first, the Steel scored the only goal of the period by Alex Carpenter with 4:09 to play before intermission.

The second period opened the same way the first ended, with a Steel goal, this time on a short-handed unassisted try from Steel Captain Greg Wolfe. 2-0 Steel with 17:43 to play in the second at this point.

Youngstown answered back with a power play goal which closed Chicago’s lead to 2-1. While still down a man, Mark Anthoine (Maine) turned in his 12th goal of the year, padding the Steel’s lead 3-1.

Youngstown turned it up offensively, scoring three unanswered goals, to take the lead 4-3 with 10:16 to play in the second period. Chicago came right back though with back to back contributions from Mark Adams (Providence College), both on power play goals. The goals were Adams’ 2nd and 3rd of the season.

Chicago took a 5-4 lead into the locker room at the conclusion of the second.

In the third, Carpenter took a pass from Jay Camper the distance for his second goal of the game. With that score Chicago went up 6-4.

Youngstown, again, came with a rush to tie the game at six apiece to close out regulation.

Momentum at that point was with the Phantoms who beat Wilson on a nice pass from Phantom Taylor Holstrom to Nick Czinder for the win.

The closing line on Wilson was 16 saves on 23 shots.

The loss is Chicago’s third straight on the road.

Chicago now heads to Ann Arbor to take on Team USA this Sunday November 15.
