Chicago's Offense Too Powerful for Black Hawks
Bensenville, IL (November 20, 2009) -
Following
road losses by Chicago, the Steel were happy to return
to the Edge Ice Arena where they were (3-2) heading into
their Friday night match with the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Hawks meanwhile, have been terrible on the road,
going (1-7) in an eight game stretch.
In the first period, early penalty trouble by the Steel
led to a power play goal by Waterloo Defenseman Nick
Ebert, 1-0 Black Hawks.
Chicago
would answer back with goals from Kevin Lind (Notre
Dame) and Mark Anthoine (Maine). Anthoine’s goal was his
13th of the year, giving him a two goal lead in the USHL
scoring race. The goal also set a new season high for
Mark, who previously had 12 in the 2007-2008 season.
A Dan Sova goal for Waterloo would tie the game at 2 but
Chicago would take momentum and the lead into the
intermission following an Alex Carpenter goal increased
the lead to 3-2.
The 2,100+ fans in attendance at the Edge Ice Arena
would be treated to an offensive clinic the rest of the
way.
Andrei Kuchin and Dan Kolomatis recorded the only two
goals of the second period, extending the Steel lead to
5-2. Kolomatis’ goal came on a power play advantage,
giving Dan two PP goals on the season and three for his
career.
In the third period Sova was sent to the box for
roughing. The free man gave Alex Krushelnyski (Colorado
College) the needed space for the second Steel power
play goal of the game. An Alex Carpenter goal in the
third, his second of the game, and a stat padding score
by Waterloo closed out the book on the affair.
The 7-3 victory by Chicago creates a bit of breathing
room for the Steel who are competing for the top spot in
the Eastern Division standings.
The Steel now head to Indiana to take on the Ice in
their first meeting on the season this Saturday November
21st. |
