The
last time the Chicago Steel played a home game, the
Indiana Ice skated away with a 6-0 win on January 24th.
Wednesday night, the Steel returned to home ice and
made sure the outcome would be different, as they
knocked off the Ice 2-1 for the team's fifth straight
victory.
Chicago carried the play in the game's
opening moments, but just under 9 minutes in, Brandon
Richardson but Indiana up 1-0.
The Ice took that one goal into the
second, and held it until an early second period power
play goal for Chicago. Josh Balch (Yale University)
took a pass from Max Nicastro (Boston University,
Detroit Red Wings) in the right-wing face-off circle and
slipped it past Brett Bennett, who was out of position
for the shot.
Balch has a goal in three straight games,
and five points in the same three-game span.
Halfway through the middle frame, Greg
Wolfe took a pass from Dean Chelios (Michigan State
University) while shorthanded, and danced around an
Indiana defender before deking out Bennett
and sliding the puck into the net to give Chicago the
only lead they would need the entire night.
Chicago's defense, and Steel goalie Nick
Pisellini made the one-goal lead hold up the rest of the
way to earn Chicago's second win over Indiana this year.
Pisellini (5-5-1) stopped 23 of 24
Indiana shots, and was named the game's number 3 star.
The Steel return to action Friday,
February 20th at 7:30 when they host the Waterloo Black
Hawks at the Edge Ice Arena. Tickets for all Steel home
