Steel Win In
First Shootout Of Season
Bensenville (February 6th,
2009)
--
The Chicago Steel continued their longest road trip of
the season Friday night in Omaha against the Lancers
looking to end their five-game losing streak, and they
did so with a 4-3 victory in the shoot-out.
The Steel were outshot 12-1 in the opening period,
but Dean Chelios made Chicago's lone shot count, scoring
his 10th goal of the year 2:51 into the game. Andrew
Miller (Yale University) provided the only assist on the
goal, which is his league-best 36th assist of the
season.
Steel netminder Nick Pisellini turned away all 12
Lancer shots to keep his team in the lead going into the
second period.
Chelios struck again 42 seconds into the second with
an unassisted goal to extend the Chicago lead to two.
Just under five minutes later, Greg Wolfe pushed
Chicago's lead to three, getting helpers from Mark
Anthoine (University of Maine) and Alex Krushelnyski.
Omaha got that goal back a minute later to begin the
comeback effort on a goal from Ben Arnt.
Chicago maintained a two-goal lead into the third,
but Jake Hauswirth cut the lead to one 1:34 into the
third, and Seth Ambroz tied it just over 10 minutes
later.
Neither team could gain the advantage on the
scoreboard during the rest of regulation time, or the
five-minute overtime, sending the game into the
shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, Pisellini stopped all three Omaha
shooters he faced, and Wolfe, Krushelnyski, and Miller
each scored on their shoot-out attempts to give Chicago
their 19th win on the year.
The road trip continues Saturday night in Sioux City
when the Steel take on the Musketeers. They will return
to home ice Wednesday, February 18th for a 7:30 p.m.
matchup with the Indiana Ice. Tickets for all Steel
home games can be ordered by calling the Steel Box
