The Chicago Steel scored
a pair of power play goals Tuesday night against
Waterloo, but the visiting Black Hawks proved too much,
skating away with a 5-3 win over the Steel in a make up
of a game originally scheduled for December 19th.
Waterloo wasted very little time getting on the score
board, as Keegan Meuer put the visitors up 1-0 just 23
seconds into the contest.
Alexander Krushelnyski knotted the game up at one for
Chicago exactly a minute after Waterloo scored while the
Steel were on the game's first power play.
Just under six minutes later, Chicago took their first
lead of the night. Mark Goggin (Dartmouth University,
Boston Bruins) found Matt Lindblad on the far post, and
Lindblad one-timed the puck past Waterloo goalie Joe
Howe.
Early in the second, Waterloo went on a two-man
advantage, and Ben Miller capitalized for the Black
Hawks, tying the game at two just over a minute into the
middle frame.
The
score remained tied through most of the second, but
Chicago once again struck on the man-advantage. The
Steel won an offensive zone faceoff, and Philip
Samuelsson (Boston College) controlled the puck at the
point. He slap-passed it to Dean Chelios (Michigan
State University) on the near post, and he stickhandled
around Howe and backhanded the puck into the goal to put
the Steel back in front.
Unfortunately for Chicago, that lead only lasted six
seconds, as Jordan Samuels-Thomas took the ensuing
center ice faceoff and scored to tie the game once again
at 3.
The
Black Hawks took the lead for good 3:26 into the third
on Samuels-Thomas' second goal of the night. Craig
Smith picked up a Chicago turnover, and fed it to
Samuels-Thomas, who beat Chicago netminder Hudson
Stremmel.
Eriah Hayes added an insurance marker for Waterloo
halfway through the third to close the scoring.
The
Steel will finish their road schedule with a Friday
night tilt in Green Bay against the Gamblers. Then, the
team will conclude their ninth season in Chicago at the
Edge Ice Arena against the Indiana Ice on Saturday night
at 7:30. Tickets for Fan Appreciation Night can be
ordered by calling the Steel Ticket Office at
