--
The 2009 USHL Futures Draft took place today and the
Chicago Steel drafted five players; 2 forwards and 3
defensemen. The USHL Futures Draft consists of five
rounds and allows each of the 13 member clubs to draft
players who were born in 1993. These players will then
be placed on the affiliate list for the 2009-10 season.
USHL teams retain the rights to players selected in the
Futures Draft for three years and can add these players
to the active roster at any time during the season.
With the 11th pick in the draft the
Steel chose JC Campagna who is a gritty two way player
with the ability to score. Coming from the home town of
Dublin Ohio, JC participated in USA Hockey Top 40 1993
prospects camp. JC played for the Ohio Jr Blue Jackets
last season.
In the 2nd round with
the 16th overall pick, the Steel picked up
Theo DiPauli. DiPauli is a left shot center and a
fearless competitor who plays in all three zones. Theo
played for the Chicago Mission last season.
With the 37th overall
pick, the Steel selected Jimmy McDowell from Little
Ceasars. McDowell is a great natural skater and a puck
moving defenseman with great size and is fearless in the
corners. McDowell is already committed to Michigan
State.
In the 4th round with
the 42nd overall pick, the Steel selected
Cory Czarnik. Czarnik, who played for Belle Tire last
season, is a skilled centerman, who can make plays all
over the ice. Czarnik has a brother who plays for the
University of Michigan, and Cory will be an offensive
threat in the USHL.
In the final round of the 2009 USHL
Futures Draft, the Steel selected Jagger Dirk. Dirk is
a highly skilled defenseman with top notch hockey
sense. Dirk also possesses break out speed and is
gritty all over the ice. Coming from Penticton B.C.,
Jagger is the son of Robert Dirk (Former Chicago
Blackhawk). |
