Rough Weekend For Chicago
Bensenville, IL (January 11th, 2010) -  The Chicago Steel wrapped up their recent three game swing on Sunday home at the Edge Ice Arena. The weekend series led the team through Iowa, first to Des Moines on Friday then on to Waterloo Saturday before closing out Sunday at home with a rematch against the Black Hawks.

On Friday from Buccaneer Arena, Chicago Forward Greg Wolfe recorded his 13th goal at the 2:29 mark in the 1st to give Chicago the early lead 1-0. Des Moines would tie it before going to first intermission knotted at one.

Kevin Lind (Notre Dame) took advantage of a power play opportunity in the opening minutes of the 2nd period, his fourth goal of the year, which gave Chicago the 2-1 advantage. Des Moines answered back with two goals to take a 3-2 lead into second intermission.

Much like the 2nd period, Chicago scored first on a Jay Camper (University of New Hampshire) goal, his fourth, only to have Des Moines answer back with two goals in the third. Chicago would go on the drop the decision 5-3 to Des Moines.

Chicago had outscored Waterloo 13-6 in two previous games this season. With that being said; Waterloo did their best to narrow that deficit- putting up eight goals en route to an 8-3 victory for the Black Hawks. Chicago’s Dan Kolomatis (6), Kevin Lind (Notre Dame)(5), and Greg Wolfe (14) all recorded goals for the Steel.

The Steel returned to Chicago early Sunday in preparation for their three o’ clock start against Waterloo at the Edge Ice Arena. The Steel set a season high in attendance with 2,186 people on hand for the Chicago Steel’s “Scout Night”.

With 5:33 gone by in the 1st, Kevin Lind recorded his 6th goal for Chicago, his third in as many games. Waterloo’s Tyler Barnes would match it for the Black Hawks with a goal of his own, 1-1 after one period of play.

Despite recording 13 shots on goal in the 2nd period Chicago failed to keep pace with Waterloo who added two more goals, which increased their lead to 3-1.

Late in the 3rd period Jake Chelios would draw Chicago within one with his 6th goal but that was as close as Chicago would get. The 3-2 loss at home leaves the Steel 0-6 in point opportunities over the weekend and just 3-6-1 in their last ten games.

The Steel (13-15-4) currently remain in the playoff hunt- slotted to receive the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.  The Steel head to Sioux City and Cedar Rapids on Jan 15th and 16th before returning to the Edge Ice Arena the following weekend to host Des Moines Friday Jan 22nd and Sioux City on Saturday the 23rd.

Tickets for these games can be purchased by calling the Chicago Steel ticket office at (630) 594-1165.
