Steel Open Up 1-0
Bensenville, IL (October 1st, 2010) - Chicago
Head Coach, Jon Waibel, earned his first career victory
Friday night, as the Steel opened the 2010-2011 season
with a 4-2 win over the Fargo Force.
Danny Mattson (University of North Dakota) had a goal
and an assist, and Darik Angeli, Cole Gunner (Air Force
Academy) and Ian Young (Colorado College) added scores
for the Steel (1-0-0), who took a 1-0 lead after
Angeli’s unassisted goal at 7:11 of the first period.
Fargo rebounded with a Joe Rehkamp goal just over six
minutes later and a Brian Cooper score at 4:08 in the
third-period to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Force’s Colton Hargrove, who assisted on Cooper’s
goal, was involved in a third-period skirmish and sent
off the ice with a game misconduct penalty for kneeing.
Hargrove’s penalty proved costly for Fargo, as Mattson
scored on the power play 17 seconds later, assisted by
Tyler Lapic (University of Wisconsin), to knot things up
2-2. Mattson added an assist later in the third-period
on Gunner’s tie-breaking goal with 3:49 left.
Young put the game away with an empty net goal to give
the Steel a 4-2 victory.
Connor Wilson (Yale University) was solid in net, making
26 saves for Chicago, which was outshot 28-21 in the
contest.
The Steel will face the Youngstown Phantoms Saturday
evening at 7:30 at The Edge Ice Arena. Tickets, Group Packages and
