Steel Still Winless Against Youngstown
Story By: Steve Newton
Bensenville, IL (November 27, 2010) - Since
they entered the league last season, Youngstown has
given the Steel absolute fits and Saturday night was no
different as the Phantoms left The Edge Ice Arena with a
3-1 victory. Chicago is now 0-7-1 against Youngstown.
The first period looked like it was going to end in a
scoreless tie, but Youngstown’s John Fritsche beat
Connor Wilson (Yale University) with 31 seconds
remaining to give the Phantoms a 1-0 advantage going
into the first intermission.
Youngstown added to its lead, three minutes, 17 seconds
into the second frame with a goal by Nilan Nagy. Jay
Camper (University of New Hampshire) got the Steel
rolling with his sixth goal of the season at the 5:41
mark of the second to cut the Youngstown lead to 2-1.
Cole Gunner provided the assist on Camper’s goal, his
third assist in the last two games and twelfth assist of
the year.
Chicago spent the majority of the third period on the
attack, but a few unfortunate bounces and a couple of
nice saves by Youngstown’s Matt O’Connor prevented
Chicago from gaining the equalizer. The Phantoms added
an empty netter with 59 seconds left to skate away with
a 3-1 victory.
Wilson made 24 stops between the pipes for the Steel in
the loss and Youngstown outshot the Steel 27-20 in the
contest.
Chicago will be back in action next Friday when it
travels to Cedar Rapids to take on the Rough Riders at
7:05 p.m.
