Steel Unable To Cut
Down Lumberjacks
Bensenville, IL (November 9, 2010) -
Chicago’s Adam Krause scored two goals on the evening,
but Muskegon’s Matt Berry put three past Connor Wilson
as the Lumberjacks skated past the Steel for a 5-3
victory Tuesday at the Edge Ice Arena.
Berry got Muskegon on the board seven minutes, 17
seconds into first period on a wrist shot past Wilson
(Yale University). The lead didn’t last long however, as
Tim Weber earned his first goal of the season at the
9:01 mark of the first frame to knot the score, 1-all.
Weber’s score came after Cole Gunner’s back hand shot
was deflected behind net by Muskegon goalie Joel
Vienneau. Gunner followed up his shot, circled around
net and slid it off to Weber in front, who buried it
past Vienneau. It was Gunner’s sixth assist of the
season.
Chicago grabbed the lead at 3:31 in the second period
when Adam Krause placed the puck in the back of the net.
The puck had deflected off Vinneau on Danny Mattson’s
attempt from the right, rolled past the goal, where
Krause cleaned up on the rebound. Mattson (University of
North Dakota) was credited with the assist, his ninth
point of the season.
A goal by Alexx Privitera and one by Travis Belohrad put
Muskegon back up 3-2 with just over five minutes left in
the second. But the Steel were awarded a power play at
18:49 in the second, and Krause scored his second goal
of the period to bring the Steel even at 3. Ian Young
(Colorado College) and Mattson assisted on Krause’s
power play goal.
Berry followed with his second goal of the game at 7:54
in the third period, when he skated past two Steel
defenders to put the Lumberjacks back in front 4-3. He
netted his third goal of the game six minutes later.
Wilson made 24 saves against the Lumberjacks. Chicago
outshot Muskegon 32-29 in the game.
The Steel will be back on the road this weekend when
they travel to Dubuque on Friday and then head north to
face the Green Bay Gamblers on Saturday. Puck drop for
both contests is 7 p.m.
