Steel to Host Green Bay on New Years Day
Bensenville, IL (December 31, 2010) - The
Chicago Steel will kick off the New Year with a January
1st matchup against the Green Bay Gamblers at 7:30 p.m.
Green Bay returns to The Edge Ice Arena boasting a 12-2
record in its last 14 games, counting a 5-2 win against
the Steel on Dec. 17.
Chicago held a 2-1 lead in the Dec. 17 contest before
Green Bay’s William Kessel scored three times in a
22-minute span to lead the Gamblers to the road victory.
Kessel, who is tied for fifth in the United States
Hockey League with 27 points (12g, 15a), also added an
assist for a four-point evening.
The Steel are 4-0 on Jan. 1 since the 2002/2003 season,
including a 5-4 shootout victory against the Lincoln
Stars last season. Jay Camper looks to continue his New
Year’s Day point streak after netting a goal and helping
on Alex Simonson’s score against Lincoln one year ago.
Chicago will also rely heavily on Garrett Allen (six
points in first six games with the Steel) for a much
needed scoring boost against two of the United States
Hockey League’s top goaltenders.
Green Bay goalies, Ryan McKay and Adam Wilcox are ranked
fifth and sixth, respectively, in goals against average
in the USHL. McKay has an 11-2-1 record on the season
with two shutout victories, while Wilcox is 7-3-1 with a
.927 save percentage.
