Wilson Earns His First Shutout
Bensenville, IL (February 20th, 2010) -
The
Chicago Steel played host to the surging Sioux Falls
Stampede from the Western Division over the weekend.
Despite sitting in fifth place in the East Chicago has
enough time to make a run at the playoffs.
Friday night’s game was both short and sweet for the
Steel. After blanking the Stampede in the first period
Chicago Forward Cole Gunner (Air Force) recorded his
first goal with the Steel since coming over from Fargo
in a previous trade.
Turns out that was all the scoring Chicago would need
behind outstanding goaltending by Connor Wilson, (37/37)
who was credited with the shutout.
Both teams played a clean game, receiving a combined ten
minutes worth of penalties. Fans were able to get in and
out in just over two hours before coming back on
Saturday for the second game of the back-to-back.
On
Saturday night, it was Chicago on the losing end of a
1-0 effort. Sioux Fall’s Anthony Day beat Wilson with
13:40 gone by in the first period. Chicago’s offense was
held twice to seven shots or less despite multiple
opportunities late in the game.
Chicago now sits 11 points back of the fourth and final
playoff spot. The Steel head to Kearney, Nebraska for a
weekend series this February 26th and 27th
against the Tri-City Storm. |
