Splitting the Road
Bensenville, IL (March 5th, 2010) -
The
Chicago Steel looked to carry their new found success on
the road following the two game sweep against Tri-City
into March beginning with a matchup against Sioux Falls
this past Thursday.
Chicago’s
offense never got going as Sioux Falls limited them to
no more than nine shots on goal in any of the three
periods of play. Meanwhile, Sioux Falls benefited from
bookend goals in the first and third period off of
Chicago Goalie Connor Wilson (26/28).
The 2-0 final leaves Chicago and Sioux Falls tied with
two regular season victories apiece in their ’09-’10
head to head matchups.
On Friday, from the Lincoln Icebox Arena, Chicago‘s
offense picked up where it was stagnant the night
before. The shutout through the first period marked a
scoring drought which spanned four quarters until
Forward Danny Mattson (North Dakota) snagged his second
goal in eight games with the Steel.
The Steel made the 1-0 lead heading into the third
period a no-doubter with two more goals to close out the
3-0 win. Buffalo Sabres’ draftee Mark Adams (Providence
College) recorded his fourth goal of the season on a
nice pass from Forward Jake Chelios on a power play
early in the third to make it 2-0 Steel before Forward
Alex Carpenter capped the scoring for Chicago with his
11th goal on the year. Connor Wilson earned
his second shutout of the season with the victory on
Friday.
Following the split, Chicago heads back to the Edge for
a weekend series against Tri-City this Friday and
Saturday March 12th and 13th
beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Steel also play on Sunday
March 14th vs the Indiana Ice at 3:00.
