2010 USHL Entry Draft Results
Bensenville, IL (May 19th, 2010) -
The
past few days have been long for the Chicago Steel
staff, but they are very pleased with the outcome of the
2010 drafts. In today’s USHL Entry Draft, the Steel
drafted 6 Forwards, 6 Defenseman and 1 Goaltender
The
USHL Entry Draft is structured as follows; "The number
of rounds for the Entry Draft shall be as many rounds
necessary to bring each club's player roster to at least
30. Teams will first draft to fill the active roster
number of 23. The Entry Draft will then extend to allow
all teams to bring their roster to 30.” (ushl.com)
The
Steel were very happy to have acquired the First overall
pick from the Tri-City Storm when the two teams
exchanged the pick for defenseman Kevin Lind, defenseman
Zack Rall, forward TJ Sarcona, and forward Cory Czarnik.
The Steel and Storm also swapped picks in the fourth and
fifth round.
With
their newly acquired First Overall pick of the 2010 USHL
Entry Draft the Steel selected Forward Adam Krause.
Krause, a right shot center from Hermantown, Minnesota,
comes in at 6’ 175 lbs and is already committed to the
University of Minnesota Duluth. Last season Adam played
with Hermantown High School. Adam will be a big time
impact player this year for the Chicago Steel. He will
bring size, speed, skill and work ethic to the lineup
every night. He will be counted on every night to be an
impact player
With their second pick
in the first round pick, 4th overall, the
Steel selected Defenseman Joel Benson. The Marquette,
Michigan native is 6’1, 183 lbs, and spent last season
with Alpena in the NAHL. Joel is a gifted Defensemen
with great skating ability, vision, and will bring some
offensive punch to our lineup. Joel will be counted on
for minutes this year and will give us the depth we need
in the defenseman position.
Through trades, the
Steel had the 17th overall pick (2nd
round), and they were very pleased to draft Defenseman
Sam Windle. Coming in from Maple Grove Minnesota, Windle
is 6’4 and 185 lbs. Last season Sam played for Osseo
High School in Minnesota. Sam is a big defensemen with
great skating ability and mobility. He will add size and
speed to the lineup every night and the Steel are
excited to have this young talented prospect to our team
and organization.
After a brief lay off of not having another second round
pick or a third round pick, the Steel used their 4th
round pick to pick Centerman Steven Fogarty 47th
overall. Fogarty, who is from Edina, Minnesota, is 6’2
190 lbs, played for Edina High School in Minnesota last
season. Steven will join the Chicago Steel for the
2011-12 season. He is regarded as one of the best
prospects for the 93 birth years out of Minnesota. The
Steel are excited to have Steven rights for the future
and can’t wait to see him in a Chicago Steel uniform.
Zach Saar selected 60th
overall is from Little Caesars (T1 Min). Zach is a big
power forward with great hands and work ethic. He will
go to places that many forwards will not. He has a nack
for the net and has the ability to score big time goals
at the right time. We look forward to having Zach in our
organization.
Charlie Lindgren was
selected 79th overall and played with
Lakeville North (MN-HS) last season. Charlie is a
goalie that will bring depth to this position. Charlie
has the ability to win games on his own and make game
changing saves. He was the only goalie selected out of
MN to attend the National Festival for 93 birth years.
Ryan Renz was selected
214th overall and played with Alberni Valley
(BCHL). Ryan was a steal at the 214th
overall selection. He is regarded as a top prospect for
the NHL draft of 2011. He is a defenseman with size,
skill and a work ethic unmatched by many. Ryan will be
counted on to bring his abilities every night to our
lineup and provide impactful minutes. The Chicago Steel
can’t wait to see him in our uniform.
Nate Repensky was
selected 229th overall and played for Duluth
East (MN-HS) last year. Nate is a defensemen and is
regarded as a top prospect out of Minnesota hockey. He
is young kid with a lot of upside that we will see in
the future. He plans on joining the Steel in 2011.
Devin Loe was selected
244th overall and played with the Panthers
U16 (NAPHL) last season. Devin is a skilled center men
with great vision and work ethic. He will always compete
at the highest level and is a true leader on and off the
ice. He was captain of his prior team. We are excited to
add this talented young man to our organization.
Mike Holland was
selected 259th overall and played with
Hotchkiss(NEDI). Mike is a defenseman with great puck
moving abilities. He sees the ice well and has great one
on one skill. He will give us the depth we need at
defense.
With the 247th
overall pick the Steel selected Patrick Moore. Last
season he played with Grand Rapids (MN-HS) and Patrick
is a forward with great skill and has the ability to put
up points on any given night. He is a player for our
future and we are excited to have him on our depth
chart.
Hudsen Fasching was
selected 289th overall who played with Apple
Valley (MN-HS). Hudsen is a 95 birth year player who is
regarded as one of the best prospects for the NHL within
his age class. There is nothing that this kid can’t do.
We hope to add him to our lineup one day.
Brian LeBlanc was
selected 304th overall who played with
Hermantown (MN-HS) Brian is a defensemen that does his
job. Brian makes few mistakes and is always in great
position. We are excited to have his rights for the
future.
