2 Current and 12 Steel Alumni in NHL Camps

Fourteen Chicago Steel players, two current and twelve alumni, have recently been invited to attend NHL Prospect and Developmental camps. Forward Adam Krause will be participating in the Tampa Bay Lightning camp, while Defenseman Dan Kolomatis will be playing in his home state of New Jersey at the Devils’ camp. Former Steel player and current St. Cloud State forward, Drew LeBlanc, will be coming back to Chicago to attend the Blackhawks prospect camp. Max Nicastro, along with brothers Jake and Dean Chelios, will attend the Red Wings’ camp. Mark Adams will play in the Buffalo Sabres’ camp, while John Moore, Will Weber and Tyler Murovich will all attend Columbus’s camp. Mark Goggin will get the chance to participate in Boston’s player development scrimmage and Kevin Lind attended the Anaheim Ducks’ prospect showcase.  Eric Alexander and Andy Miele will be in Washington D.C. to participate in the Washington Capitals camp.

Krause, drafted 1st overall by the Steel, will be among the 31  players invited by the Lightening to participate in on ice scrimmages from July 10th thru July 14th . Along with on ice games, Krause will also get to help with community service initiatives of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Dan Kolomatis, who returns to the Chicago Steel for the 2010-2011 season, will be practicing with the other New Jersey Devils prospects. During the 2009-2010 season, Kolomatis recorded 17 points in 55 games. The 5’11” defenseman, who is from New Jersey, joined the Devils for prospect camp that began July 12th.

LeBlanc has the opportunity to attend the Chicago Blackhawks prospect camp. Although the franchise has invited 71 other players, LeBelanc’s statistics are impressive with 19 goals and 40 assists in 72 USHL games along with 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points in 81 games for St. Cloud State.

Max Nicastro, along with Dean and Jake Chelios, had the chance to take part in the Detroit Red Wings’ development camp. Nicastro played two seasons for the Steel from 2007 until 2009. In his second season, Nicastro earned 31 points with 9 goals and 22 assists. This past year he went on to play for Boston University earning 15 points with 3 goals and 12 assists in 37 games. Dean Chelios played for the Steel in 2008-2009 and has since played for the Spartans at Michigan State University. Dean recorded 4 goals, 6 assists for a total of 10 points in 35 games for the Spartans. Brother Jake Chelios, who played for the Steel in 2009-2010, will be following Dean to MSU next year. Jake earned 34 points with Chicago scoring 12 goals and 22 assists in 52 games.

Mark Adams was able to attend the Sabres’ prospect camp. Adams was drafted by Buffalo in the 2009 entry draft in round 5 (134th overall). He recorded 14 points with the steel in the 2009-2010 season scoring 4 goals and earning 10 assists.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have invited 3 former Steel players to attend their camp. John Moore played for the steel from 2007-2009. After being drafted 21st overall by the Blue Jackets in 2009, he continued his hockey career in the OHL with the Kitchner Rangers where he scored 10 goals and earned 37 assists for a total of 47 points in 61 games. Will Weber was drafted in the 2nd round by the Blue Jackets (53 overall) in 2007 and played for Chicago in 2007-2008. Weber now plays for Miami University of Ohio. In his previous season, Weber posted 10 points with 1 goal and 9 assists in 43 games. Tyler Murovich, alum of the 2006-2007 Steel team is currently playing in the American Hockey League for the Syracuse Crunch. Murovich earned 6 points with 2 goals and 4 assists in 5 games with the Crunch.
 

Mark Goggin, drafted by Boston in the 7th round (197 over all) in 2008, had the chance to workout at the Bruins’ prospect camp. Goggin played for the Steel in 2008-2009 and scored 5 goals, 4 assists to earn 9 points in 17 games. Mark went on to play at Dartmouth College where he played 21 games, scored 4 goals and earned 2 assists for 6 points.

Kevin Lind, who was traded to the Tri-City Storm from the Steel, participated in the Anaheim Ducks’ developmental camp. Lind was drafted to the Ducks in the 6th round, 177th overall in the 2010 NHL entry draft. Lind recorded 16 points in 55 games with 6 goals and 10 assists.

Eric Alexander played for the Steel in 2007 and was traded to the Lincoln Stars halfway through his second season in 2009. Alexander now plays for Ferris State University.  In his past season Alexander recorded 7 points in 23 games with 3 goals and 4 assists.  Joining him in DC is former Steel player Andy Miele who currently plays for Miami University of Ohio.  Miele earned 44 points in 43 games with 15 goals and 29 assists.
