Waibel Named Head Coach
and General Manager
Bensenville, IL (September 2, 2010) - The
Chicago Steel is proud to announce that Jon Waibel has
been named Head Coach/General Manager of the Chicago
Steel Hockey Team.
A native
of Baudette, Minnesota,
the 2010-2011 season is Waibel's fifth with the
organization, the first in his new role as Head Coach.
Just 28 years of age, Waibel had a successful college
career where he won two NCAA national championships in
his four seasons with the Minnesota Golden Gophers
(2002, 2003). He also spent 2 seasons in the USHL
playing for the United States National Team Development
Program for then head coach Jeff Jackson (Notre Dame).
"I am
excited for this opportunity, and I look forward to the
upcoming season.
We have a good group of guys in the room and I
know they will play hard day in and day out" Said
Waibel. "Steve Poapst has guided the Chicago Steel
Organization for the past few years, and I am thankful
to the Chicago Steel Ownership for the opportunity that
they have given me to lead this organization."
