Weekend Recap

Bensenville, IL (January 29, 2011) -
 The Chicago Steel grabbed one point on their road trip this weekend after taking Tri-City to overtime Saturday evening, before the Storm’s Cody Murphy netted the game winner at the 3:14 mark of overtime to earn the 3-2 victory.

Tri-City took a 1-0 lead, eight minutes, 55 seconds into the first frame, but Chicago countered with two goals of its own on Tim Weber’s third goal of the season and Joel Benson’s fourth goal of the year. The Steel’s 2-1 lead lasted for just under four minutes in the third period. Soren Jonzzon evened it at 8:47 in the final period to send the game to overtime.

Connor Wilson made 25 saves for Chicago, while Christopher Holden stopped 34-of-36 shots he faced for Tri-City.

On Friday, Chicago surrendered three first period goals to Sioux City as the Musketeers went on for a 4-1 win. Danny Mattson scored the Steel’s lone goal at 3:31 in the second period to deny Matt Skoff of his fourth shutout in 2010-11. Assisting on Mattson’s goal was Adam Krause.

Wilson turned away 27 shots on Friday against Sioux City, with two Musketeer scores coming on power plays.

Chicago is back at the Edge Ice Arena next weekend when it faces Team USA on Friday and Muskegon on Saturday. Puck drop for both contests is 7:30 p.m.
