Green Bay Escape Steel By Way of the Powerplay
(December 2nd, 2011) - Green Bay’s Dakota Mermis
had a goal and an assist as the Gamblers left with a 3-1
victory over the Chicago Steel Friday evening at The
Edge Ice Arena.
Green Bay's Kyle Novak scored the opening goal, seven
minutes, 16 seconds into the first period on an assist
by Brandon Kirk.
A scoreless second period followed, before Daniel
Kucerovy netted his fourth goal of the season to knot
the score, 1-all with 14:59 left in the third. Charlie
O’Connor added the assist on Kucerovy's goal.
Sam Herr scored the game winner for the Gamblers on the
power play at the 12:06 mark after Chris Joyaux was sent
off with a five minute fighting major and two minute
fighting instigator penalty.
Mermis put the game out of reach with an empty net goal
with 23 seconds on the clock.
Green Bay outshot the Steel 43-15 in the contest.
Mathias Dahlstrom made 40 saves for the Steel in the
loss.
Chicago will be back at The Edge Saturday evening to
take on Team USA U-18. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
