Chicago Stung By Phantoms
Bensenville, IL (February 7, 2011) - Three
goals scored by Youngstown in the first period, with two
coming from Ryan Belonger, proved too great of an
obstacle to overcome as the Phantoms skated away with a
4-3 victory over the Chicago Steel Monday afternoon.
Belonger tallied the two goals at 6:01 and 13:39 of the
first period to give the Phantoms a 2-0 lead. His
teammate, Ty Loney increased the lead to 3-0, five
minutes, 13 seconds later.
In the second period, Tucker Brockett got Chicago on the
board with a shorthanded goal at the 7:00 mark.
Assisting on Brockett’s goal was Tim Weber.
The Steel got even closer in the third period, when Sam
Povorozniouk beat Youngstown goalie Jordan Tibbett to
bring the lead down to 3-2. Loney, however, scored his
second of the game to put the Phantoms’ lead back up to
two goals, 4-2.
Chicago was not done either as Joel Benson scored with
just under five minutes left to pull the Steel back
within a goal. Several lucky bounces and a couple of
nice saves by Tibbett allowed Youngstown to escape the
Edge Ice Arena with a 4-3 win.
Connor Wilson posted 22 saves for Chicago, while Tibbett
tallied 24 for Youngstown.
The Steel are back in action this weekend when they
travel to play Muskegon on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and
then return to the Edge on Sunday for a re-match with
Youngstown at 3 p.m.
