Trenz Commits To Northern Michigan
(January 19th, 2012) - The Chicago Steel are happy
to announce that defenseman Ryan Trenz has committed to
play hockey for Northern Michigan University beginning
next season. Trenz is in his first year with the Steel
and has tallied five assists in 29 games.
"I visited NMU last summer and I really liked the
campus," Trenz said. "I went on the official visit
earlier in January and got to meet the coaching staff
and saw a game the next day. I really liked the
facilities and the head coach Walt Kyle has a great
background in coaching. The players were very good to me
and everyone seemed very close on the team."
The 6-foot, 180-pound native of St. Louis, Mo. is the
second member of the Steel organization to commit to the
Wildcats this year. Back on Dec. 8, Steel goalie Mathias
Dahlstrom selected NMU as his college choice.
"It will be nice going to Northern Michigan to play
hockey with someone you know," Trenz said. "We will
probably end up rooming together and will continue our
friendship that started here in Chicago."
Trenz will be returning to Michigan after playing the
2010-11 season with the Michigan Warriors of the North
American Hockey League. He notched eight goals and 17
assists in 56 games for the Warriors.
