GENEVA, ILLINOIS — Five forwards and one blueliner on the current Chicago Steel roster were named to the midterm NHL draft ranking for North American skaters, NHL Central Scouting announced Monday. The list includes three Chicago affiliate players who have ties to the Steel as well.

33) Forward Sam Colangelo: 2019-20 – 18G, 18A
53) Forward Sean Farrell: 2019-20 – 10G, 29A
110) Defenseman Luke Reid: 2019-20 – 1G, 9A
181) Forward Josh Doan: 2019-20 – 3G, 7A
212) Forward Gunnarwolfe Fontaine: 2019-20 – 17G, 20A

The Steel lead United States Hockey League member clubs with six current players on the North American skaters list. The USA Hockey National Team Development Program has 18 players listed in the rankings.
Farrell leads the USHL in scoring with 39 points (10G, 29A) while Gunnarwolfe Fontaine shares second in the league, tied with teammate Mathieu De St. Phalle, with 37 points (17G, 20A). Colangelo is tied for fourth in league scoring with 26 points (18G, 18A). Brisson paces USHL rookies with 30 points (15G, 15A) this season.
“We are certainly appreciative any time one of our players is recognized, and we are especially proud when the sheer number of players recognized is so significant,” said Steel General Manager Ryan Hardy. “With that in mind, the NHL futures of these players, as well as our other players who were not ranked on the list, will be determined by their commitment to development both on and off the ice for the remainder of this season and in the years to come.”
The Steel are on a current franchise-record, 11-game win streak and top the USHL standings with a 25-4-1-0 record (51 pts). Chicago is averaging a league-best 4.90 points per game.
The Steel return home to Fox Valley Ice Arena on Jan. 17 & 18 for a celebration of 20 seasons of Steel hockey with a throwback weekend against the Omaha Lancers.
Friday’s game is a Year 2000 theme night and next Saturday’s contest includes a Year 2000 Rusty bobblehead doll giveaway for the first 500 fans.
